Welcome Home

Can you see the terror in my eyes?

Emlin saying goodbye to the hospital.
Scott was so happy to be home, those daddy chairs are really uncomfortable.

Wednesday morning (Aug 4) I could not sleep to save my life. I was so nervous for the induction and delivery process. Around 2 AM I finally dozed off and woke up at 3 AM to pains in my belly. These pains were tight and were exactly 2 minutes apart. "Hmm, that's weird" I thought, "Am I in labor?" After an hour of consistent pain I thought, "I think I'm in labor."

I woke up Scott, and he shot up like a perky little bird. All of a sudden it dawned on the both of us that we know nothing about delivering a baby. We are those unprepared parents that never read any books, watched any videos or took any classes. So Scott whipped out the computer and we started scavenging for as much information as possible. He also made us a handy little Excel spreadsheet with a timetable of my contractions. (He is a nerd).

Around 6 AM my contractions were becoming less painful so we decided to go for a walk. We called the hospital and they said to come up at our scheduled time. We arrived at 7:30, got checked in, broke my water at 8:30, got an epidural around 9:30. I was terrified of getting the epidural but it wasn't so bad. The only bad part is that it affected me really weird, the left side of my face got all droopy. I thought my eye felt funny but when I looked at Scott straight on and saw the horror on his face then I was scared. (I've always been a little sensitive to medicine. One time I took a tylenol PM and seriously slept for 3 days). But once they turned it down I was fine, I was more than fine, that part was like heaven really.

I was dilated all the way by 4 PM, started pushing at 5 PM, and Scott caught our sweet baby Emlin at 5:37 PM. My nurse Sharee was amazing and I loved having Dr. Meredith.

Emlin is so sweet and smells like Heaven. When she came out I couldn't believe how chunky she was and that she has hair. I was a skinny little gray baby with strawberry blonde curly hair. Could we be any more opposite? She is a chunky, pink, baby with dark hair. She has got some long legs and her newborn clothes don't fit. She looks so much like Scott and really is the sweetest thing. We are so happy to finally have her home.

You are so funny. I am not even surprised that things went so well. I will forever laugh when I think of Scott shooting up in bed like a "perky bird" and then the two of you searching the internet to see what to do next. That is so classic! She is heaven!

Congratulations you guys! She is so beautiful and I love the full cheeks. New babies are the sweetest thing on earth. You will be such good parents and I love her room. Enjoy her because she will be out of this stage before you know it and with the first baby you don't have to worry about the older ones. Maybe this is too long of a comment and maybe I am baby hungry? Oh no.

So I actually read the detail this time, and I just had to tell you that I had Dr. Meredith, too, and loved him to pieces. I'm sad he can't deliver all my babies. And yeah, Jason slept horribly on those Daddy chairs, too. Lol you two crack me up, looking up what to do when you go into labor when you're already IN labor...
