These are the Days

Melinda’s Day:
Last week was my birthday. Scott did a good job of getting me an outfit...and that’s all. No breakfast-in-bed, no card, no flowers, no chocolates, no promises he didn’t intend to keep…that last one is a Beauty and the Beast quote but you get the idea. So I went to bed that night feeling like our romantic days were over. But today I got home to some serious love-rekindling. I walked in to find a note from Scott on our bedroom door that said something like “Melinda you can’t come in here till I get home.” I know that sounds creepy, but I knew something was up because he had been bugging me all week about how he was going to do something really cool for me. So I waited for him to get ready and we went in to find this awesome headboard he made! I knew it was a headboard but from first glance it looked more like a piñata. He had wrapped in some wrapping paper (that he bought himself…he thought this through) but it wasn’t enough so he used some polka dot stuff we had and some cardboard…it was pretty funny. He also made a happy birthday sign on a poster board, put together some Broulim’s roses (all of which he had broken trying to jam into that vase) and my favorite part was the cake. He salvaged some of my leftover birthday cake (which said Happy Birthday Annalee…long story) but he put some candles in it and we had our own party! He did a great job, today is by far the best birthday I have ever had and it’s not even my birthday. Thanks Scott I love you.

What a cute cheeseball.

Scott’s Day:
My day consisted of hell and well……more hell. First of all I went to work for most of the day. I was thinking about Melinda sitting at home all by herself on a Saturday and it was making me feel pretty bad so I was trying to get done with work so I could finish her headboard and get home before she left for her bridal shower thing she had to go to at six. So I got done with work and headed over to the shop to finish it. During the process I don’t think it could have gone worse, probably because I was so frantic. So after I built the thing like three times over I go to load the pieces that I had calculated to fit in my car and guess what…… they didn’t freak’n fit. So I had to borrow our work truck to take it to our apartment. So I get it all set up and I’m about to leave and I say to myself… “self, it would be a good idea to lock the freak’n door to our bedroom”. So I close the door without even thinking and almost as an afterthought I decide to make sure I can get back in…..idiot! obviously I can’t. You know that lock picking trick you do on your siblings when their in the shower. Well this is the only time it didn’t work. I even tried the stupid window. I finally got so desperate that I said a prayer and then I realized my phone was locked in there too because it started ringing. Just when I was about ready to seriously….and I’m not joking……seriously tear the whole freak’n door jamb apart, I was inspired at that very moment to shove a screwdriver in the door. Hah….it worked. To make a long story short I drive like a hundred to get my car and still have time to get all the birthday supplies. I walked in Broulim’s looking like a frick’n raccoon because ive been painting all day and my eyes and hair are completely white. People are staring and im carrying all this birthday crap that I cant even hold on to because I was in too big of a hurry to get a cart. So I get home and cram the roses into a vase and I broke like all of them. Ive seen Melinda do it a hundred times how freak’n hard could it be. Ya I suck as a florist. I get out the wrapping paper and it must have been made in china because there was only four feet of it. I just started grabbing crap and taping it on to cover the headboard. So Melinda gets home and we take like a million pictures of it. She decided that we need to re arrange the room. So while im in the midst of this project she hits her leg on the bed that I had to move in order to get the stupid headboard on. So she’s almost in tears and the flowers fall on the carpet and water goes every where. So we just decided to leave and go to dinner. And that’s the day from you know where. I know it doesn’t sound that bad and it really has a happy ending. She was really happy and that was my whole purpose with all of it. Even if it did suck it was worth it. We had a really fun time tonight. Happy Birthday Lin!

I am laughing so hard right now. For some reason as I read Scott's version of the day I was hearing it in my head as his Byron voice and it was even more funny. These are the memories that are so precious. It makes you love and appreciate each other even more.

k lets switch beds, remember that one time I have a sick wooden cabin masterpiece, oh ya how could you forget it was on display at my wedding. Your story was hilarious, I love that you thought the romance days were over. I've been there but have learned that if I whine about it enough I usually get something cool. So good job.

That is the funniest thing that I have ever heard. It is nice to see the perspective from both sides. I guess it's a good reminder to appreciate the little things and the big things even if they aren't done the way we thought they should be, because chances are that our spouse really is trying hard to make us happy. Thanks for the reminder.
